Crawling!

"Crawling" is what you do on Hosur road (for that matter, Bangalore roads);and since a lot of them are doing it in tandem, it is "parallel crawling"! Further, since a lot of people are crawling different parts of Bangalore roads, it is "distributed" as well!

(Jargon not intended, just inevitable :))

Bangalore : From City to Cant.!

On one of my recent trips, whiles browsing through the Airport bookstore (this is RELIGION! :o) ), a book titled 'Peter Colaco's Bangalore' caught my eye.

Now, I am not one usually given to reading Travelogues / Guides for Tourists / Factsy-Figuresy City Guides, unless I am actually going someplace new, but something about this looked different. And how!

Peter Colaco is an old Bangalore man, born here in 1945, and, among other things, a writer, columnist, visiting prof at IIM(B) and ex-head of an advertising agency. 'Peter Colaco's Bangalore' is just that...Peter Colaco's Bangalore ; the Bangalore he knew growing up, and the Bangalore he learnt about from his grandparents and from his research, and the Bangalore a lot of us know only in urban legend!

Whether you are new to Bangalore, or have been a part of the landscape for ages, pick up this book, retire to a quiet corner in the garden, and start a heart-warming journey into a Bangalore that used to be, not too long ago.

How does ICT Influence Decision Making?

A friend of mine called Ramya N is conducting an online survey as part of her research. The title of her research is: How does ICT Influence Decision Making? A Behavioural Study of Career-Choice Decision-Making among South Indians. Below is an abstract of the survey:

This is a survey which is a part of a project being carried out at the International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore. In the present age, we see that children are exposed to numerous media at a very young age. We intend to observe how this affects their decisions in general and their career-choice decision in particular. The results of this survey will be used to analyse whether the advancement in Information and Communication Technologies has brought in any change in the mindsets of people with respect to career decisions. Your help in this regard will be greatly appreciated. For practical purposes of analysis and study within a limited time frame, this survey is restricted to only the people who completed school education (10th class) in the southern part of India, post 1980.

I found the topic of Ramya's research to be very interesting. Here is the link to the online survey. If you can spare some time, please do answer the survey. You may find it interesting too!
